Paying to play online with the Xbox 360 is so last week.
With Games for Windows Live now a freebie, those titles that allowed Xbox 360 and PC players to combat each other are also free to play on the Xbox 360. The list currently includes Shadowrun, Universe at War, and Lost Planet Colonies. All three are quality titles.
If you plan on testing this out, the time would be now. There’s an off chance that this is a temporary glitch due to the shift to the free service. Whether or not future titles that allow cross-platform online will include free Live remains to be seen as well.
