Midway is in bad shape. They’ve already filed for Chapter 11 to restructure and sold off a few franchises, but who knew it was really this bad? The company’s plan to restructure includes selling off the Mortal Kombat franchise. Wow.
In an Edge interview, Geoff Mogilner, Midway head of investor relations, states that:
“We’re not going out of our way to sell Mortal Kombat.”
In the immortal words of Dumb & Dumber however:
“So you’re telling me there’s a chance? Yeah!”
If the sale does eventually happen, first on the list of potential buyers? Capcom, making the ’90s fanboy wet dream of MK vs. SF a reality. What Street Fighter player hasn’t wanted to rip the head off a CPU Bison during an extended arcade session? Despite the dream, seeing Midway lose such a beloved franchise would be a sad sign of the times.
