Live in New York? Love buying video games? Like buying snacks to go along with them? Then if a bill proposed by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D) passes, that’s going to cost you more than it used to. The admittedly small tax, one quarter of 1%, would be added to the sale of movies, movie tickets, games, game consoles, soda, and various junk food.
This is Ortiz’s fourth try at passing the tax, the first one occuring back in 2003 according to Gamepolitics. Ortiz expects $50 million earned if this passes, all of which would go towards programs to fight childhood obesity…or instilling common sense in parents. You know, either way it works, but let’s make people pay for something parents should be doing on their own.
