Over on Amazon, potential Game of the Year candidate Modern Warfare 2 holds a whopping 1.5 rating from the user reviews. Why? The games lack of dedicated servers, which many felt defeats the openess of PC gaming. We won’t argue with that, as it is a valid point.
However, despite throes of people crying foul and supposedly taking part in a protest… the game is still selling. Not only that, the PC version is selling well.
“The PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in it’s first week,” stated Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling.
Bowling made the statement after a report that stated the PC edition only accounted for 3% of total sales in the UK. While Bowling admits that’s true, that is only a result of the massive, ridiculous amount of console copies sold in the first week.
This doesn’t say much for the gamer boycott movement, which has yet to see one real effective strike against a popular title. The masses simply want to drop a tactical nuke on each other, and could care less if that’s being done on a private server or one hosted by Activision.
