Phantasy Star Universe Given a Cut-off Date

Phantasy Star Universe will be no more come September 7th, 2012. The six-year old RPG will retain the single elements, but the servers for online multiplayer are about to be axed. Sega’s official statement:

“… there comes a time when we must consider the level of service and support we can provide for an ongoing game, balance those concerns against preparing for the future, and providing you with new opportunities and new experiences.”

The Phantasy Star Online universe used to be part of the lineup on the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox, but those services are no longer provided either. That leaves only this 360 version as the final gasp of online life. Note that Sega is apparently still charging a monthly fee for these final days.
