The SimCity launch was a bust. Server issues, questionable marketing, and tactics in an attempt to quell a consumer uprising were all a hot topic. In steps EA for damage control to the 1.1 million people who purchased a copy and were likely – at some point – unable to play. Anyone who purchased a copy of SimCity will be able to access one free Origin game (from a list of eight) between March 22nd and March 30th. Buyers will have details emailed to them.
The list of eight games is surprisingly robust, including new release titles, casual titles, and… the offline playable SimCity 4. That last one is an interesting choice. The entirety of the list follows:
- Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
- Bejeweled 3
- Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
- Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
- Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
- Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
- Plants vs. Zombies
- SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition
The best deal there is Dead Space 3, the most recent game of the list and the one still commanding a retail price premium. The weakest? Either of the PopCap games (Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled 3) which the studio has given away for free during promotional periods, and rarely retail over $10.
