Despite laying off staff members due to slow, lagging sales, it seems EA is still happy with Mirror’s Edge. In fact, EA CEO John Riccitiello has stated that there will be sequels, and seemingly based the franchise off of reviews:

“Mirror’s Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed. That one’s going to go forward. We’ll probably look at some issues around the design to make sure a strong [intellectual property] is married with strong business.”

The way that reads is “We’re happy with the reviews, but the gameplay wasn’t all that great to generate sales. Instead, we’ll create a completely different game and call it Mirror’s Edge 2, creating a new fan base and write off the original buyers.” Sounds smart, at least since I certainly wasn’t a fan of the original.

No word on pricing yet either, and it appears PC fighters get nothing. The special edition is planned only for the 360 and PS3 versions. You know what would be great though? A free arcade stick so 360 owners don’t have to use the mess that is the 360 d-pad.

It’s sort of surprising that such a big event failed to have a mega build-up. One would think Sony would have tickers on their website counting the days until Home arrives in full. Maybe they’d send out press releases slowly over the course of a month describing all of the great features (sort of like what Microsoft did with their NXE). Instead, it’s announced one day before launch, official December 11th, that Home will be available to all.

Technically, it’s only a beta, but if it’s open to all users, that’s not a beta. It obviously works enough that Sony has confidence to release it to everyone, so seriously, not a beta people.

Those people would be wrong.

World at War has doubled first week sales of Call of Duty 4. It should be noted that two more platforms are hosting the WWII shooter, the PlayStation 2 and the Wii. However, the numbers breakdown didn’t specifically state sales numbers across all hardware. It’s hard to tell if a PS2 version made a huge difference or not, though Call of Duty 3 didn’t turn out so bad on the Wii. Only time will tell us if WaW outsells its predecessor or not for all time sales though.

Tired of using the triggers to select a canned phrase from a list to “chat” in Hot Shots Golf on the PS3? Tired of trying to say real words that can’t be printed here because the game won’t let you? Fear no more. The game has finally been updated well after its release to allow for full in-game voice chat. The patch should be available at the time you read this.

This makes the game far more playable for friends trying to get into a game together. It’s a feature that changes the title completely, and many of the reviews that slammed it for not featuring it in the first place. Hopefully this can grow the community as well.

Now, does this mean any game released after January 1st needs to ship with them, or can they be added later? Nothing sucks more than playing through a game only to see trophies patched in a day after you beat it (here’s looking at you Uncharted). A little clarification would help.

What it takes be considered active is never really stated. There have been 273 million pieces of downloaded content in total, which is over 19 items per person. Not too bad Sony. Soon enough, your plans for world domination may be complete.

Included in the set is a nifty looking shark, a gorilla (who looks a lot like the King Kong that used to be at Universal Studios), a penguin, frog, and some sort of creepy plant-thing. Also on tap is a Motorstorm-related rider, so if you’re making a level based around racing of some for, that’s what you’re looking for.

Prices range from free (the plant), $0.99, $1.99, or $2.99 for all of the animals in one batch.

For a hardcore MGO player, that’s like getting Christmas early. Finally, an expansion in the works for release later this year for $14.99.

In other words, get them ASAP or they won’t be apologizing to you apparently.

Of course, if you have a 360, you can still partake in that version, or if you own a Wii, you could take on Big Willy Unleashed. On the other hand, if you have backwards compatible version of the PS3, you could always pop in the PS2 games for your fix. If none of those options are possible, you’re basically screwed. Sorry.

Have trouble charging your PS3 game accessories? Really? Why? Did you lose every single mini-USB cable that came with each one? Well, if you’re one of two people in this situation, Sony has you covered. The aptly titled “Official PlayStation AC Adapter” can charge two mini-USB items at once… or you could just plug them into the PS3. Not only do you need a separate outlet for this thing, it’s not going to work any differently than before. Why would anyone spend $25 on this thing?
