In addition to the previously mentioned xbox festivities, Microsoft is celebrating Xbox LIVE’s fifth anniversary by rolling out a new download service on December 4. After the 360’s next firmware update, users can buy and download original Xbox games for their 360 for 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15. The initial lineup of Xbox Originals will feature Halo, Crimson Skies, Fable, and cult classic Psychonauts.
Unfortunately, and rather unsurprisingly, trixie360 over at the official Xbox forums confirmed the 360 version of Halo won’t see any of the improvements from the PC port such as online multiplayer, additional maps, and new weapons and vehicles. Even the XBLA version of Marathon 2 featured online multiplayer over LIVE. Come on, Microsoft.
Now, everyone start saving to buy Crimson Skies on release day. If we buy enough copies, maybe Microsoft will resurrect FASA Interactive and get them working on a nextgen sequel. It couldn’t end up any worse than Shadowrun. Still, hopeful daydreaming aside, if these Xbox Originals prove successful, expect to see more coming down the pipe and even some greater backwards compatibility support.
Me, I’m rooting for a downloadable version of Unreal Championship 2.
