Months of rumors and speculation have lead to the announcement of the PS3 Slim. Not that this was a surprise… At GameCom, Sony announced the new model as a reality, including a 120GB HDD and (obviously) slimmer design. Still unclear is who thought making the console look like a cheap Hong Kong bootleg system was a good idea. Maybe we’ll know someday.
Anyway, things to note are the new lower price ($299), lack of support for other operating systems (Linux), and lack of backwards compatibility (of any kind). Hey, you get what you pay for. Also, the system will be available in the first week of September, and we’re pretty sure retailers would love to take your money for pre-orders.
