“We really wanted to celebrate the holidays by giving our players some really fun gifts,” said Bill Roper, Executive Producer of Champions Online. “So we’ve cooked up a brand new winter event, and created several new ways to share the joy of Champions Online.”
The first of these holiday goodies is the “Attack of the Misfit Toys” event. The psycho evil-doer ‘Black Harlequin’ has taken it upon himself to “improve” all the toys being given out in Millennium City, to deadly effect. To make matters even more festive, he’s brought along his psycho evil mecha-teddy, by the name Clarence. Sounds like oodles of holiday, super-hero fun.
Developer Cryptic Studios is also initiating a referral program, encouraging players to invite a friend to play for free for ten days. Players and recruits will win a rare in-game action figure and other bonuses. What’s more, for every recruit who actually buys the game, players will be rewarded with an extra costume slot as well as 400 Cryptic Points to spend as they wish. Sweet deal.
Cryptic Studios is also inviting new players to enjoy a Champions Online demo. Players can play the tutorial for free, defend Millennium City from an alien invasion, and create two fully customized characters to play with until level 15 within the tutorial. The demo will be out on December 21st.
Lastly Champions Online is going mobile with a new I-phone App developed by Cryptic Studios. Players can actually download the Champions Companion for free from the App store, and it will allow players to keep up with the latest game news, communicate with friends playing the game and view their characters.
