Top PSN Downloads for 2009: Call of Duty to Mortal Kombat

Sony has released the numbers for downloadable content on PSN for 2009, and the top three downloads… well, they probably won’t surprise anyone. The three map packs for Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War nabbed the top stops, oddly in exact order. That apparently shows less people playing World at War as they prepped for Modern Warfare 2’s release late in the year.

A piece of FIFA content may be surprising to American gamers coming in at number four, but shows how huge EA’s soccer franchise is worldwide. The rest of the list is rather unsurprising, with the exception of Mortal Kombat II komin… err, coming in at the tenth spot. MKII was released onto PSN back in April, 2007, and apparently is still selling strong enough to beat out a significant push of original PSN titles.

This also begs the question as to why Xbox Live Arcade owners have yet to see a port. The only retro-styled Mortal Kombat for XBLA to date has been Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

The top 10 PSN downloads of 2009 is below:

1) Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1
2) Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2
3) Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 3
4) FIFA 09 Gold Pack
5) Final Fantasy VII (PS3/PSP)
6) Battlefield 1943
7) Fat Princess
9) Flower
10) Mortal Kombat II
