Nintendo E3 2010 Press Conference: Score

They started off pretty rough. Their live Zelda demonstration for Skyward Sword did not go well. Miyamoto fought the controls and ended up changing the whole plan live. Then, they moved into a mini-game collection called Wii Party and a Mario sports collection called Mario Sports Mix. Then we got numbers.

We’ve seen this before.

Then, it all started. Golden Sun, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby, Epic Mickey, and Metroid? Yeah, this is what we wanted. Where was all of this stuff three years ago? Why did we have to wait so long? Nintendo officially gets it. They understand that can appeal to both the hardcore and mainstream, and these are the games to do it.

It does not matter if they are innovative. What matters is that anyone can play them, with that extra edge that the hardcore love and grew up with. They are not insulting; they are attractive and engaging. These are the franchises we wanted, begged for, and we got them.

They still weren’t done though, delivering a mind-blowing trailer for Kid Icarus Uprising for the 3DS that did it all. It make you imagine how stunning this will look in 3D, showed off the visual capabilities of the hardware, and brought back a character we had been asking for. This is what it is all about. This is what we watch E3 for.

Nintendo got it. Who would of thought?
