PSN Firmware Update 3.40 Adds Video Editing, Photo Sharing

PlayStation Plus, the paid version of PSN, is premiering soon. To coincide with the launch of that service, the latest PS3 firmware update is going live right about now. Version 3.40 allows you to upload photos to Facebook and Picasa, plus share them with PSN friends. So much for accepting random friend requests…

Oddly, the PS3 will now also offer video editing software. No word on how this work or what codec(s) it will utilize. Facebook will now become a larger part of PSN, allowing users to link their PSN profiles and send PSN friend requests through Facebook, a lot easier than using an on-screen keypad. Finally, items on the PSN store can be rated on a five-star scale, borrowing a page from Microsoft’s playbook.
