Week in Arcade: Monkey Island 2, Blacklight Tango Down

Two games this week, including a remake of a classic adventure title.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge

One of the standouts of the LucasArts adventure era, Monkey Island 2 takes Guybrush Threepwood on the quest for treasure across many islands, and gorgeously redrawn visuals, now with voice acting (all for only $10!). The original is still there as well just by hitting the back button. The writing remains as vivid and witty as ever, losing none of its charm over the years. Also, the ability to have direct control over your character is going to save a lot of people frustration who are not familiar with these classics.

Blacklight: Tango Down

It went through some technical issues, but Blacklight is live. With such superlative mechanics, fast gameplay, and tight controls, it’s a wonder why this didn’t expand into a full retail release. As it stands, it’s a couple of co-op missions and versus multiplayer, but it’s a lot of fun. Leveling up while earning weapons and upgrades may sound familiar, but there’s no question the distinct feel makes Blacklight stand out. Well worth the cash for FPS junkies, although the community may find itself back in Modern Warfare land at any time.
