Week in Arcade: Hydrophobia

A single release week, the first since the Summer of Arcade ended.


If you’ve a phobia about anything to do with this one, it’s the controls. What a mess. The camera never stays put, even if you need to see something behind you. Climbing controls are sluggish, at times unresponsive, and someone thought putting the critical jump button on “Y” was a good idea. When did “A” fall out of favor? Hydrophobia takes place in an interesting world and is loaded with gorgeous water effects, but struggling with everything else, like the $15 price, isn’t worth the effort.
