X-Men Arcade Game Coming to XBLA, PSN

One of the most oft-requested beat-em-ups is going download on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Between Capcom and Konami, some of the genre’s greatest were produced in the ’90s, the X-Men arcade game being one of them. Announced at the New York Comic Con, sans pricing or release date (just “soon), Konami did confirm six-player co-op online.

What must be noted is that six-player was only available in arcades via three-screen set-up. Other cabs were four and two player with a standard screen. How that massively wide screen will be replicated at home will be a mystery. Standard 16×9 widescreen isn’t enough. A guess is to letterbox the thing, meaning those dreaded “black bars” on the top and bottom of the screen, but the masses tend to hate those since they don’t understand them.

There is no word on any graphical refinement, so hopefully this stays true to the source like the first Turtles Arcade Game, and not the mess that was Turtles in Time. X-Men had some awesome, huge sprites that were full of color. It should look great in hi-def, pixelated as it should be.
