A full $20 worth of games this week, one of them a real gem.
Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
Take the greatness of Pac-Man Championship Edition and make it, well, greater. There’s literally nothing wrong here, the focus of Championship Mode II being to put as many ghosts as possible on screen. The sheer satisfaction of chomping entire rows of ghosts as they sit there blissfully unaware of what’s coming to them is the epitome of awesomeness. The increasing speed becomes a burden, with your only savior being some bombs that will send the ghosts back to the center of the screen. This is brilliant game design.
Did Alien Breed 2 just come out? Yes, yes it did. Much like DeathSpank, this is the same material recycled with new level designs and the same problems. Sure the grind is fun, but the puzzle solving and key card searching grew old after Doom. The mechanics are still fine, and you can see the action as opposed to the first game, but it’s still only marginally fun. And, if you’re releasing games this close to each other, call them episodes, because that’s what they are.
