Week in Arcade: Unbound Saga

A solo release, the first time we’ve seen a singular XBLA title for a while.

Unbound Saga

If this one sounds familiar, that’s because you own a PSP where this came out well over a year ago. In the translation, the stiff movement as been addressed but not fully fixed up as the player traverses the pages of a comic beating up all who stand in his way. An AI companion is always at your side, and you can switch at any time. The tone is darker than the Sega Genesis title this sounds like, Comix Zone, and the combat is rough around the edges. The darker style also makes it hard to see what’s going on at times, but the punches are satisfying while weapon variety helps with the monotony. Probably better to wait for a price drop at $10.
