LG sued Sony a little while back over some patents related to Blu-ray tech (what specifically is not mentioned in the Guardian article). A court has imposed an injunction against Sony, preventing any hardware shipments into Europe for the next ten days, and the possibility exists that LG could have that deadline extended again.
Should LG win the suit, Sony would be forced to pay LG for every piece of hardware sold worldwide… ever. Sony states there are enough pieces of hardware in store to last between two or three weeks, so the current shipments stopped by customs does not mean all PS3’s are being removed from shelves. That said, if you live in Europe and have an eBay account, this might be something to look into within a few weeks. It’s could be like Christmas all over for resellers.
