It seems like it would make sense: Two of Microsoft’s biggest brutes teaming together to fight against a never ending horde of underground aliens. Perfect.
To his credit, Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski tried in-between meetings discussing how to kill the next Carmine brother (that’s happening, right?). Microsoft seems skittish on the whole scenario and decided that… no, it won’t be possible. Bleszinski makes the comparison of Gears being like Mortal Kombat and Halo being more like Street Fighter.
And you know what? He has a point. Look, it’s absurd to think gamers are going to frown on the inclusion. In fact, it would probably add another 10 million to sales, and no one would think less of Mater Chief for chainsawing a Locust.
They are different universes, one bred on sheer violence, the other on colorful explosions and goofy, rag doll deaths. The worlds exist on two different spectrums despite sharing a “M” rating. Many would probably argue that Halo doesn’t even deserve the M moniker. It wouldn’t feel “right,” much like (despite the awesomeness) Sub-Zero ripping out Ryu’s spinal column and beating Ryu with it wouldn’t feel right either.
