Week in Arcade: Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

The Summer of Arcade is about halfway through with the promo thanks to this $15 gem.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

Gunning for a brilliant minimalist approach, Twisted kicks off with a Fantasia like cacophony of sound mixed with visuals, all depicting the formation of a planet. The creation event is triggered by an alien who then sees it right to explore his work, doing so by blending the dual analog shooter and some Metroid-like exploration. His kooky UFO levels up, gains new means of defense or puzzle solving, and battles immense structures that seem alive with their plant-like visages. Dark yet totally colorful, Twisted is a pleasant little blend, almost calming in a way despite its intensity in tight quarters. Part actioner, part puzzle solver, all great.
