Persona 4 Is Getting a Fighting Game

If you love either Arc System Works (creators of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue) or Persona, than have I got news for you.

The team behind BlazBlue is currently developing Person 4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena, a fighting game that takes place two months after the events of Persona 4 with Teddie hosting a fighting tournament. So far confirmed characters have been Chie, Yosuke, Yu (the main character), and Aigis, who is actually from Persona 3, so that leaves the remaining characters up in the air if the roster continues to be that flexible.

The game will release to Japanese arcades spring 2012 and will then release to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in Japan as well the following summer. Besides being a four-button fighting game, it is interesting to note that the arcade cabinets will utilize hardware known as NESiCAxLive, which allows games to connect to the internet for online patch updates and leaderboards.

Lastly, the game will also be on display at Tokyo Game Show at Arc System Works’ booth as well as the Amusement Machine show on September 17 and 18.

I’ve always wanted to play Persona but never got around to owning a PS2 or even a PS3. What better way to dive into the Persona experience than by letting Arc System Works mold a masterful fighting game experience from the Persona universe? I’m already excited by the screenshots Famitsu released because it looks like the burst mechanics that have been in so many ASW games will be in P4U. Not to mention that the sprites looks absolutely gorgeous.
