Rumors began to flood the internet over the weekend that THQ was in dire financial circumstances, enough that a major 2014 MMO release based on Warhammer 40k was being shelved. As it turns out, that’s not the case according to the official response from the dev/publisher.
“THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets.”
In other words, the company is shifting focus, and chances are some people may be caught in the cross fire. As it stands, the U-Draw tablet and failure it became is becoming a part of history and not much else. They’re also dropping out of a kid-friendly market entirely, choosing to focus on the core gamer and digital offerings.
THQ is certainly betting on the latest iteration of their UFC franchise which hits in February, and maybe they can salvage Homeland as well. WWE 12 is showing legs, and Darksiders 2 may pull them out of a rut, a rut which seems alleviated by Saints Row 3.
