A Friday release, but only because the game deserves the spotlight.
Rendering the tower defense genre in reverse is a masterstroke of involved strategy design. Players control a convoy and super soldier, parading around a map filled with alien turrets. Their powers, all designed with unique traits, make map progression the chore it should be. Paths must be plotted with ingenuity, and the strain of waiting for one of four life saving power-ups makes battle scenarios intense. Upgrading and purchasing units remains key, the role reversal having no impact on genre basics. If anything, it adds to the beauty of this design. Don’t take Anomaly at face value, namely the first two levels. They’re awful. Everything afterward is ingenious.
