ArenaNet has revealed the launch date for the highly anticipated Guild Wars 2: Tuesday, August 28th, 2012. A promotional trailer was released alongside the announcement, encouraging players to prepare themselves for the coming launch. You can view the trailer below.
A blog post by ArenaNet’s president and co-founder Mike O’Brien reveals another Guild Wars 2 related tidbit in the announcement blog post – the final Beta weekend event is scheduled for July 20-22.
To those who don’t already know, Guild Wars 2 is the sequel to the PvP-centric MMORPG Guild Wars, which launched in 2005. Much like the original, Guild Wars 2 has no monthly subscription fees, requiring only the initial purchase of the game to play. Guild Wars 2 features much more responsive and action-heavy gameplay, and a world that changes and evolves based on dynamic events, which in turn affects how players quest.
“These are exciting times,” O’Brien states in the blog post. “We’re on the cusp of a new era in online roleplaying games, and we’re glad you’re on this journey with us.”
