A bumpy development period for Command & Conquer: Generals 2 continues to see hiccups. What was once a retail game dropped into the free-to-play market, and with that transition goes the single player campaign.
The game will focus on multiplayer match-ups and e-sport events. Bioware Victory GM John Van Caneghem speaking to PC Gamer:
“[Bioware] really want to get back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer great. Generals 2 will let us harvest and throw up bases in order to ‘build a zillion units’ and “go out and kill all the bad guys.”
But, isn’t the roots of the franchise held in the arms of wonky FMV cinematics and an arching story? Van Caneghem stats a single player campaign could be added later, but the focus is more on the business model which will include maps and DLC, some paid for, some free.
