The game collector’s market it huge. Many people (including myself) make it a hobby to source vintage games, collect, trade, and sell them. Unfortunately, GameStop has caught on.
With some stock already in hand from acquisitions and the potential to find more, the company is looking into the resale of classic titles. The question is whether or not a company of that size can handle the specifics of that market, much of which hinges on condition, completeness, and rarity. Historically, GameStop doesn’t guarantee whether the game has any materials beyond the cart/disc online. Marketplaces such as eBay thrive because of pictures, descriptions, and the potential for getting a good deal.
If the Power-Up Rewards program is any indication, it’s not a bright future for this sector of the market.
