One $15 XBLA release for the week, and it’s a port of a great fighter.
In nearly all of its many forms, Guilty Gear succeeds. Superior speed, high-res sprites, and intense battles create a fighting environment primed for close rumbles. A flashy combo system propels offensive strikes, and skilled players can keep them moving ahead at length. This port, however, has issues. Scaled up to 1080p, there are concerns with the backgrounds which exhibit heavy tearing and filtering. Sprites have made the transition cleanly – mostly – although their shadows are muddy. Online play is fine, but the visual issues do rob Guilt Gear of one of its most memorable traits.
