A Friday release set aside for a $10 remake of an arcade classic.

Double Dragon II

Hilarious dashboard translation aside, this is a pitiful recreation of a iconic brawler. Miserable frame rates place the game somewhere in the ’90s as if this were a polygonal DOS game struggling to keep up. The visuals are hardly beefy enough to warrant the performance. Boss fights are near impossible given the restriction of combos, and the repetitious music – based on one of the moodiest scores for a beat-em-up – is a travesty. Coming off Double Dragon Neon, one of the best of 2012, this is absolutely appalling. Even die-hard fans of the franchise should be looking away in horror.
