Arc System Works Reveals Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

For years, it seemed like Arc System Works had moved on from their trademark Guilty Gear series in favor of starting BlazBlue. Well, after four games of BlazBlue, Arc System Works revealed on their 25th anniversary that Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-  is in development. While Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R is the most recent revision of the series, the last true numbered entry was over 11 years ago with Guilty Gear XX in 2002.

Daisuke Ishiwatari returns to direct this title which appears to take place after the events of the latest chronological game, Guilty Gear Overture (which was a Dynasty Warriors-style game). Probably the biggest shock, more so than the 2.5D graphic similar to Street Fighter IV, is that the game is running on the Unreal engine. But it weren’t for the stylized camera shifts, you’d just think the characters were the best sprites ASW has done yet.

The trailer finishes off with a vague “in development” teaser but ASW currently finishing up on BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, it’s likely we won’t be waiting ages for more information on its development.

Heaven or hell. Let’s rock!
