Nintendo Recalls 8GB Wii U Basic Units from GameStop

Nintendo may be in the midst of silencing the low cost, 8GB Basic Wii U. Priced at $300, the lower memory, white variation on the console cost $50 less than the upgraded 32GB system, which also came with accessories and Nintendo Land. GameStop has confirmed to CNET that a company-wide recall is scheduled for June 18th. Note that GameStop is the only retailer taking part; no word on other stores taking part.

I was one of the (apparently few) people who willingly purchased a Basic Wii U. With no interest in digital titles, Nintendo Land, or a glossy black console, saving $50 simply made sense. Then again, after bumbling the internal memory size, Nintendo caused further issues which yes, ended up costing me more. Go figure.
