Week in Arcade: R.I.P.D.

A singular Wednesday release, based on the summer flick of the same name.

Abominable third-person shooter which misses even a shred of polished performance. Cinematics prove clumpy in loading sharpened textures, let alone gameplay environments. Molasses soaked motion crunches down thrills as bloated enemy counts rupture appeal. Ineffective weapons begrudgingly work as triggers are pulled, and locked into forced co-op play means battling server issues as often as foes. Systems include routine betting on dulled objectives and financial boons to purchase fresh – equally clumsy – weapons. Note R.I.P.D. hits as the feature film lands in theaters, while the game eschews any licensed actors. It is instead based on the comic.
