Games for Windows Live Shutting Down Marketplace Aug 22nd

Games for Windows Live will cease to have a storefront as of August 22nd. Microsoft’s attempt to take over the digital PC space was often derided for its functional difficulties and never secured footing despite exclusives such as Halo 2.

Client users will still maintain access to their purchased content in the foreseeable future. Games for Windows Live titles accessible through Steam are publisher-dependent.

The closure coincides with the removal of Microsoft Points from all services. Customers with a remaining balance of Points, but without an Xbox 360 to spend remaining balances, should contact customer support to determine what happens to their funds. Everyone else will have Points converted to local currency.
