Xbox One Game Capture Limited to System at Launch

Xbox One offers automatic game footage capture, recording five minutes of  gameplay and an editing suite. At launch, this functionality will be limited to Xbox Live distribution.

In the following year, this service will rush onto YouTube and Facebook, which is a boon for those shying away from expensive and cumbersome capture kits.

By comparison, Sony will support external capture on PlayStation 4, but like Xbox One, not at launch. Microsoft keeping the capture internal means no conflict with HDCP policies regarding Blu-ray. PlayStation 3 disallowed HDMI capture entirely due to this format restriction.  However, internal recording, in conjunction with apps, will allow PS4 users to access YouTube uploading from the console.
