Killer Instinct Moves to Retail… Without Disc

Microsoft’s Killer Instinct reboot is due at launch for Xbox One, planned as a free-to-play title split into “seasons.”

New released this week mentioned a $60 copy of Killer Instinct, generating some excitement until the realization sets in this retail release offers no disc. Instead, the case includes digital content codes for the first season of eight characters, two limited collector pins, and a binder to store said pins. Again, no disc. This set will be exclusive to the Microsoft Store, and is now available for pre-order.

Capcom tried something similar recently with DuckTales Remastered, issuing a box to retail with a slip inside to download the digital title. More recently, Capcom made the decision to issue the game as full, on-disc retail title.

Maybe Microsoft will realize the error of their ways and issue a complete edition (with disc!) down the line.
