Week in Arcade Part Deux: Contrast

Coinciding with the PS4 launch is a $15 titled shared by next and current gen consoles.

Unique 3D platform title steeped in mystery, with the main character being a curious young girl. With jazzy cabaret styling and an undercurrent of mystery, Contrast mixes intrigue and puzzles dealing with light. Position lights to create shadows which can then be climbed upon to reach new areas. Contrast is inherently mysterious and vague when dealing with these shadows in terms of narrative, and it’s play on light is technically impressive if controlled for good reason. Gameplay is fluid if too loose and often tough to maneuver on precision paths due to its speed. Still, this is a purchase for the world, and it’s masterfully composed.
