There are patches and then there are complete reworkings of of a video game. For NBA 2K14, it would seem to be the latter. There are 65 fixes added to the NBA 2K14 fix list posted at 2K Blog, all relevant to the more recent release on the current slate of holiday hardware, and some of them are bunched up at the end. Who knows how many smaller fixes have been applied.
The list is exhaustive, but should fix things like games in The Park not starting correctly, better “and one” percentages when fouled, and a commentary bug. Chances are if you had an issue with the title, including frustrating crashes, they have been given appropriate attention.
If you have not already downloaded this third patch, it should download the next time players boot the title up.
