2K Sport’s MLB Series Retired

After issuing a wobbly MLB 2K13 with zero fanfare, 2K Sports has silenced their third-party baseball franchise for good. The company began removing Facebook pages, YouTube videos, and other pieces of its online presence earlier today. These now direct to 2K’s general home page. Closure was confirmed by Joystiq.

This franchise shuttering leaves only Sony’s acclaimed MLB: The Show as the sole baseball presence on consoles or handhelds. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Xbox One will remain baseball-less unless EA recreates their MVP series, or even less likely, Microsoft jumps in to revitalize their decade dormant Inside Pitch.

Mobile players may see some basic simulations (a few have squeezed out, including notable card-based strategy titles), but baseball pickings will otherwise be thin in 2014.
