Double Helix, who most recently worked on the Killer Instinct reboot for Xbox One, has been purchased by Amazon. All employees of the developer will remain.
Rumors of the web store front moving into the video game console realm have swirled for roughly two years. This purchase adds credence to Amazon’s market entry. Asked by TechCrunch why Amazon bought a game developer, they replied, “”Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.”
As for the free-to-play Killer Instinct, which is meant to continue into additional “seasons” of content, Microsoft is currently seeking a new developer according to a Polygon report.
