Facebook Acquires Oculus Rift. Price? $2 Billion


In its humble beginning, Oculus Rift began as a $2.4 million Kickstarter project. Today, Facebook purchased Oculus for $2 billion.

Mark Zuckerberg sees this as, “the platform of tomorrow” according to a press release. He also considered it a, “social platform.”

Under the new structure, Oculus will stay in place with CEO Brendan Iribe remaining. The company will also stay in Irvine, California.

Oculus Rift is a 3D VR headset for use specifically with games (rather those that support it), including some from Valve and id. Development kits are available for $350.
